Kathryn “Kitty” Boardway MSC, LMFT
Welcome! I am one of the Owners and Clinical Directors of Grounded Roots Mental Health Therapy and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). With over a decade of experience in mental health care, my primary focus is working with individuals who have experienced trauma. Whether it’s trauma stemming from childhood, adulthood, or a combination of both, I am dedicated to providing compassionate, effective support to help clients heal and reclaim their lives.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of supporting a wide range of clients, including children with Autism, foster youth, survivors of sex trafficking, and adults navigating severe mental health challenges. Most recently, I served as the Clinical Director for a specialized geriatric case management program and have been in private practice for several years. These experiences have strengthened my ability to address the unique needs of individuals coping with trauma, grief, and several other mental health concerns. My approach is rooted in a deep understanding of the complex impact of trauma and a commitment to creating a safe, supportive space for every client. My practice is client-centered and trauma-informed, focusing on the unique challenges of those facing trauma, PTSD, complex PTSD, depression, anxiety, co-dependence, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, schizophrenia, and more. To help my clients process their trauma and find resilience, I utilize evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including:
•EMDR: A powerful tool for trauma healing, helping clients process and move forward from painful experiences.
•CBT: For understanding and reframing negative thoughts and beliefs, promoting insight and clarity.
•DBT: To transform unwanted behaviors into healthier, more effective patterns for emotional regulation and interpersonal success.
In addition to these methods, I am trained in Seeking Safety, Wellness Recovery Action Plans, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). This diverse toolkit allows me to tailor therapy to meet the individual needs of each client and address the multifaceted nature of trauma.
My ultimate goal is to empower my clients to move beyond survival and embrace a life of thriving and fulfillment. Through a heart-centered, trauma-informed approach, I aim to foster healing, growth, and resilience, guiding each client toward a stronger and more hopeful future.
